Preservation and improvement of the environment in the cross-border region through composting of biodegradable waste

General project aim is to stimulate the balanced and sustainable development through environmental change adaptation and smart economic growth. Specific objectives are: Promoting and enhancing the utilization of common natural resources and stimulating nature protection through implementation of joint envronmental actions; Raising public awareness on reduction and reuse of biodegradable waste; Capacity building of relevant public authorities and stakeholders on waste reduction and reuse issues; Preservation and improvement of the quality of soil, water & air; Improved local enviornmental policies.

The project envisages: Development of case studies in both target areas on level of information on waste composting, benefits of composting and needs assessments; Information conference for presentation of studies results; Information days in Vidin and Bor districts for popularising the benefits of composting of biodegradable waste; Supply of composting equipment - composters and shredders; Training Zero waste policy and wise solutions for waste management - capacity building event for local, regional decision-makers and other stakeholders; Development of Cross-border plan for management of biodegradable waste; Final cross-border assessment of the effect of composting; Final conference for presentation of project results.
